Would You Rather Questions for Kids: The Story Game

A free would you rather game for kids that turns into a story. Every answer picks something for a new story: the hero, the place, the problem, and a little math twist. At the end, kids get their own story plan to print or turn into a real book with KidLore Books.

Four story cards for a would you rather story game: a dragon, a wish star, a storm cloud, and a rainbow over a house

How to play

  1. Read each question out loud and pick one. Or tap Make up my own.
  2. Two questions have a little math. Count the groups to see which pile is bigger.
  3. At the end, read your story plan, change any words you like, and decide how it ends.

Younger kids can play with a grown-up reading. Older kids can play on their own. About 5 minutes.

Everything in this game stays on this device. Nothing a child types is sent anywhere.

Turning would you rather answers into stories

Every would you rather answer is a story seed. If your child picks the dragon who is afraid of the dark, you already have a hero and a problem. Ask three questions and you have a beginning, a middle, and an end:

  1. Who is it, and where do they live?
  2. What goes wrong, and what do they try first?
  3. How does it work out, and how do they feel at the end?

That is the same plan every KidLore Books story starts with. Kids can write it, draw it, or tell it out loud while a grown-up writes the words.

Common questions

What are good would you rather questions for kids?

The best ones are silly, kind, and easy to picture, like having a pet cloud or living on the moon. Questions with two fun choices work better than ones with a right answer, because kids get to explain their pick.

What ages is this game for?

Kids about 4 to 10 love it. Younger kids play with a grown-up reading the questions out loud. Older kids can play on their own and write their own answers.

How does the math twist work?

Two questions ask kids to pick between equal groups, like 3 bags with 4 cookies each or 2 bags with 5. The game shows the groups as dots and then the multiplication, so kids see which pile is bigger.

Can my child turn the story into a real book?

Yes. Tap Turn my plan into a real book to open the plan in the free KidLore Books story planner, where a grown-up can add details and choose a book. Before anything prints, you get a full proof of every page to approve.

Is anything my child types saved or sent?

No. The game runs on your device and nothing is sent anywhere. The plan only moves to the story planner if you tap the button, and it stays on your device there too until you order.
