Kids' Book Programs for Schools, Libraries, and Groups
KidLore Books runs hands-on programs where kids plan, write, and draw their own picture books. We bring the materials and lead every session for libraries, after school programs, schools, homeschool groups, and bookstores in Franklin, MA and nearby towns. Families can then order a professionally printed copy of the book their child made.

What programs does KidLore Books offer?
There are four ways to bring a young authors program to your group. Each one ends with every child holding a book they made themselves.
Library and bookstore workshops
A two hour drop-in session for ages 4 to 12, with grown-ups staying to help.
- Each child makes a cover plus a beginning, middle, and end
- A grown-up can write the words while the child draws
- Free to attend, and we bring the supplies
- Families can add pages at home within 30 days
Young Authors Club
One hour a week for four weeks, for up to 10 kids ages 5 to 12. A good fit for after school and recreation programs.
- Week 1: plan the story
- Week 2: write and draw the first pages
- Week 3: finish the pages
- Week 4: make the cover and read it aloud
School and parent group fundraisers
Class books bind one page from every student into a printed book each family can order. A great project for March Reading Month.
- Teachers copy a free author page template, so there is nothing to order or collect
- Families can also make books at home with your school's code
- A share of every order supports your school's parent group
- The school library gets a free copy once a class reaches 10 orders
Homeschool groups and co-ops
Run as a club or a single workshop for mixed ages.
- Supports Common Core narrative writing standards for grades K to 4
- Pairs well with our free math songs and times tables quiz
- Older kids can buddy with younger ones
What does every program include?
- All the supplies. Planning pages, drawing pages, and markers for every child.
- We lead every session. Your staff just opens the room.
- The story stays the child's. Their ideas, their words, and their art belong to their family.
- Privacy first. We never need photos of children. Class books show first names and last initials only, kids publish publicly only under pen names, and partners never receive a list that links a child to a pen name.
- Parents approve every page. Families see a watermarked proof online before anything prints.
- A Certificate of Authorship comes with every printed book.
- Background checks. We complete CORI, SORI, or any check your organization requires for program leaders.
How do families get a printed book?
After the session, each family receives a watermarked proof of every page of their child's book. They can choose to order a printed paperback, a home print PDF, extra copies for grandparents, or a fully illustrated edition. Nothing is required; every child keeps the book they made.
Free resources for classrooms and families
These free tools from KidLore Books work well before or after a program. No accounts or sign ups are needed to use them.
How do I bring a program to my group?

Email hello@kidlorebooks.comCommon questions
What ages are KidLore Books programs for?
Kids ages 4 to 12. Younger kids tell their story out loud and a grown-up helps write the words, while older kids write and draw on their own.
Do kids need to be good writers or artists?
No. Every child plans a hero, a problem, and an ending, and we help them get their ideas onto the page. Spelling and drawing skill don't matter; the ideas are what make the book.
How much does a program cost?
It depends on the format and group size, so email us for pricing for your group. Every child keeps the book they made, and families only pay if they choose to order a printed copy.
Is my child's information kept private?
Yes. Nothing public ever uses a child's real name or photo. Kids can publish under a pen name, and partners never receive a list that links a child to a pen name.
Do you run programs outside Franklin, MA?
We focus on Franklin and nearby towns such as Plainville, Norfolk, Wrentham, Medway, Bellingham, Foxborough, and North Attleborough. Email us if you are farther away and we'll see what we can do.
How long is a young authors workshop?
A library or bookstore workshop runs about two hours as a drop-in session. Most kids finish a cover plus a beginning, middle, and end page in 45 to 60 minutes. The Young Authors Club meets for one hour a week over four weeks.
What is a class book fundraiser?
Each student makes one page, and every page is bound into one printed class book that families can order. A share of every order goes back to the school's parent group, and the school library gets a free copy once a class reaches 10 orders.
Do we need to provide any supplies?
No. KidLore Books brings planning pages, drawing pages, and markers for every child and leads every session. Hosts only provide the room and tables.
